The programs at TLC are accessible, free, and engaging. The lottery process relieves stress as a parent and allows me to sign up and apply on my schedule. Not in the middle of work or during a stressful time.

The TLC staff build relationships by getting to know each student and family - They support the entire family. You give us confidence and we feel safe with you and the most important thing is that the children feel safe and like TLC.

“TLC does a wonderful job of helping students succeed, thus instilling confidence in their abilities. It takes a village to help students reach their potential, TLC is an important piece to that puzzle, helping students academically, social/emotionally, and even behaviorally. Our relationship also allows parents to see their kids through multiple perspectives.”

Community Members Making a Difference

There are many organizations and community members doing this important work in our community (see Partner Page). Below are the stories of five community members who are engaged in education work at Coombs Outdoors.

  • MAGGIE GOODMAN, Coombs Outdoors Volunteer

I volunteer with Coombs because honestly it’s just fun. Whether it’s skiing groomers or exploring the trees, I love getting to ski with local kids that are just stoked. Added bonus, middle school kids are always down for a french fry break at Casper.

  • IVÁN JIMÉNEZ, Coombs Outdoors Volunteer

I love volunteering for Coombs because it's an opportunity to create the outdoor world I didn't have growing up. Skiing, mountain biking, and climbing with other Latinos creates a community where we can all access these essential forms of joy. Reducing these barriers will be a life-long journey, and I am grateful Coombs Outdoors is dedicated to doing so.

  • BRIANA OLIVARES RODRIGUEZ, Coombs Outdoors Volunteer

I volunteer with Coombs Outdoors because I think it's the best organization in town. Every year, there are improvements to the way the program is run and the activities offered. Through different trainings on equity and inclusion, Coombs has definitely made me a better teacher. I love meeting participants who later become my students or getting to ski with former students. This organization makes me feel more connected to the Jackson Hole community and I think both volunteers and participants greatly benefit from being part of this program. Many students of mine have articulated that trips or experiences with Coombs have been formative experiences in their lives.

  • TIM SMITH, Coombs Outdoors Volunteer

I volunteer with Coombs because I think it matters. Getting outside with your peers improves your problem solving, physical/mental health, social skills, the list goes on and on. None of us would be recreating in the valley if it weren’t for folks supporting us along the way. Whether it’s your parents who were former ski racers themselves, or just another kid on the slope figuring it out too. If I can be that support for someone else, then I’m doin’ something right.

  • MICHELE WOLFF, Coombs Outdoors Volunteer

I volunteer with Combs Outdoors because I’ve seen how powerful outdoor experiences can be for kids. After working in outdoor recreation, I know how nature builds confidence, connection, and community. Volunteering here allows me to help create those moments for local youth—giving them the opportunity to explore, grow, and discover their potential in ways they might not otherwise have access to.
